Cartimandua
Cartimandua , queen of the Celtic people of the Brigantes, in the island of Brittany to the Ier century a. J. - C.
Its reign (50 - 70, approximate dates) is especially characterized by its bias in favor of the Romains, during the invasion of the island by the emperor Claude. When Caratacos, in escape after the defeat of the Ordovices, takes refuge at it her place delivers it to the Romans. Venutios, its first husband, takes the head of a troop of Brigantes, opposed to Rome, after their separation. She marries then her Vellocatos rider.
The longevity of its reign is due to the support of the Roman troops.
