Carry Désilles
The carries Désilles (or memorial Désilles ) is a Triumphal arch located at Nancy, set up on the place of Luxembourg, in the Northern prolongation of the Cours Léopold and the esplanade of the Memory-French, with the crossing of the street Désilles, the street of Metz and the street of the Intrusive vein.
History
The Neuve door was built between 1782 and 1784 by the architect Didier-Joseph-François Mélin on the initiative of the Count of Stainville, commander-in-chief of the Lorraine. It was to close the prospect for the Cours Léopold and to open on the road of Metz; it was also desired monument with the memory of Nancy dead the for the independence of America. It bore the names of Saint-Louis door, carries Stainville, and took finally the name of the lieutenant Désilles in memory of its tragic death at the time of “the Affaire of Nancy”.
The Désilles door was classified historic building the January 15th 1925.
Description
The door has a height of approximately ten meters (twelve meters with decoration at the top). It is equipped with three openings: that of the medium making six meters height and the two others approximately three meters.
The high part of the interior face (vis-a-vis the Léopold course) is decorated low-reliefs which commemorate the treaty of Versailles signed in 1783 by Louis XVI. The outside (vis-a-vis the street of Metz) represents the Bataille of Nancy of 1477.
The statues and low-reliefs are of Joseph Söntgen.

Of lieutenant Désilles
Le August 31st, 1790 the three regiments stationed in Nancy were mutinèrent. Lafayette sent against them the troops of the marquis de Bouillé. The lieutenant Désilles to avoid a fratricidal bloodshed was thrown on the mouth of a gun pointed by the insurrectionists and was mortally wounded. | For the bicentenary of this act heroism the town of Nancy reconnaissante. Since the February 7th 1867 this door built in the honor of American independence bears the name of lieutenant Désilles.
