Carresse-Cassaber

Carresse-Cassaber is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

Geography

The grounds of the commune are sprinkled by the Gave d' Oloron, affluent of the Gave of Pau.

History

Dependant on the chapter of the cathedral of Lescar, the village is mentioned as of XIIe century.
The village is inhabitant of Béarn and knew a very rich history related to the prestigious presence of a family of large of Spain of 1812 to 1933.
The village saw living the main marchioness of Montehermoso of king d' Espagne, the marquis de Camarasa and surout Paul-Jean Toulet which passed its adolescence there and lived there until the age of 29 ans.
The general baron Lanabère, who is reproduced on the pillars of the triumphal arch in bets was baptized in Carresse.
Carress was joined together in Cassaber in 1973.
In Cassaber was born Doctor Foix, gold medal of medicine and large researcher.

  • Church Etienne Saint of 1842 to replace old destroyed by the marchioness of Montehermoso.
  • Church Saint-Jacob de Cassaber of the 16th Gothic century aavec bedside.
  • There existed a Notre Dame vault with the district of Chrestiaa which sheltered a leper-house.
  • In Carresse a stone martyrdom of Arudy offered by the marchioness of Monein.
  • Lastly, with the funerary cemetery vault of the marchioness of Montehermoso.

Famous characters

Paul Jean Toulet obviously is the large character of Carresse. It lived there until the 29 years age (1898). It wrote there many pages of its novels. Let us note among the other characters the marchioness of Montehermoso (1785-1869) main of king d' Espagne died with the castle, his/her husband the count d' Echauz, officer of the imperial Guard which was also general adviser and mayor of Carresse, the duchess of Castro Terreno which was used as model in Goya, the general-baron Lanabère hero of the Countryside of Russia born with Dirty-of-Béarn in 1770 and baptized in Carresse.
