Carps
See also: Carp, Carpi
The Carps (Rumanian: Carpi ) is part of the Daces or Gètes, alive during Antiquity on the territory of future the Moldavie.
Description
Remaining at 2nd and the 3rd centuries apart from the control of the Roman Empire, they then represent for this one an enemy. Roman Emperors receive from their combat against them the honorary title of “ Carpicus Maximus ” (Philippe the Arab, Aurélien, Dioclétien, Maximien, Constance Chlorinates and Constantin the Large one).In spite of that, between Carps and the Romans there are also many peaceful relations, as the many objects found by archeology testify some (for example a pearl - found in 2003 - color with the face of the emperor Constantin Ier, close to Chisinau, probably a gift given by the emperor during an peace agreement and of collaboration).
Late influence
To the 3rd century, they contribute with the migrant cruel populations Goths to drive out the Romans out of Dacie, and they take (only or with Goths, one does not know very well) the control of all Dacie in the north of the the Danube. Goths will attack then the province of Mésie. The Greek historian Zosime mentions for the last time Carps into 381 under the name of “Carpodaces”.
This tribe then gave the name to the mountains Carpates (Rumanian: Carpaţi ). (in Rumanian, the termination aţi is similar to the termination ées in French - as in carpées - and represents an adjective formed starting from a substantive - in this case used like substantive in a form of adjective).
