Carouge (province)

Carouge was a province of the Savoy. It was set up like an economic center in 1780 in order to compete with Geneva. The borough of Carouge as for him became a city in 1786. The province disappeared following the treaty from 1815 concluded with the king from Sardinia with Turin the March 18th 1816, Geneva obtaining all the territory necessary to disenclose and join together with its periphery some old Savoyard communes in exchange of the commitment of the Suisse to ensure the neutralization of the Savoy of north in the event of war.

These communes are: Collonge-Bellerive; Corsier including Anières; Hermance; Veyrier; Compesières (including Bardonnex and Plan-the-Waddings) which increases Troinex and Evordes as well as hamlets of Perly-Certoux (detached from Saint-Julien); Avusy - Laconnex; Bernex including Onex and Confignon; Surface-the-City; Lancy; Carouge; Soral (detached of Thairy); Choulex; Meinier; Oak-Thonex (except the villages of Moillesulaz; Strong Verna and ); Detached Beautiful-air of Ambilly was attached to Vandoeuvres. Présinge; Puplinge and Carra detached from City-the-Large formed the commune of Presinge. Annemasse is then attached to the province of the Faucigny.
