Carolco Pictures
Carolco Pictures Inc. is a company of tographic Production Cinéma étatsunienne independent which went bankrupt in 1995.
History
The company was rested by two investors of the cinema, Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna under the name d´ Anabasis Investments in 1982. Their goal is then to create a new business of production, independent of the majors .L´un of first films produced by Carolco is Rambo in 1982 followed by Rambo II: The Mission in 1985 with Sylvester Stallone (which signed thereafter a contract for ten films with the company).
Thanks to the success of these two films, Carolco can buy the rights of the Franchise Terminator to the company Hemdale Film Corporation. It again engages James Cameron (which also has works on the script of Rambo) and Arnold Schwarzenegger to carry out and interpret Terminator 2: The last Judgment (left in 1991) which becomes the largest success of this year and also that of the Carolco company.
Among various films of Carolco one also finds Extreme Damage , Angel Heart , Cliffhanger , The Doors , Total Recall , BASIC Instinct , Iron Eagle II , and Stargate .
Carolco acquires then several active companies in the production and the distributions d´émissions and of series of Télévision. The company tries to d´acquérir the rights of Spider-Man , without success. The little of success met by the films Cutthroat Island and Showgirls causes the bankruptcy of the company in 1995 and its closing little time afterwards.
After the disappearance of the company its rights were repurchased mainly by StudioCanal for the cinema and by CBS Paramount Television for television, with l´exception of some films.
