Carol Heiss

Carol Heiss , born the January 20th 1940 with New York, is old a artistic skater American. She was Olympic champion with OJ of 1960 with Squaw Valley.

Biography

Carol grows in the Queens with New York where it began ice-skating at the six years age, pulled by the French Pierre Brunet. After having gained various rewards in the categories juniors (whose American championship junior in 1952), it passed in the seniors in 1953 to 13 years. During three years, it finishes second with the championships of the the United States behind Tenley Albright. This performance enables him to be qualified with OJ of 1956 with Cortina d' Ampezzo where it will gain the money medal behind its Albright compatriot, but a few weeks later it beats it with the championships of the world to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (its first of the five championships of the world). At the same time, it brilliantly makes a success of its studies with the Université of New York.

After the OJ of 1956, Carol becomes professional and patinates at the time of shows of ice-skating, but his/her mother, Marie Heiss, quickly fall sick (attack of a Cancer) and before dying in October 1956 asks him to remain amateur and to gain a gold medal for it. Carol respects the will of his/her mother and between 1957 and 1960 dominates the discipline like anybody since Sonja Henie. It gains each year the national title as well as the world title, before being essential on OJ of 1960 where the nine judges place it first.

It decides to put a term at its career amateur of skater the shortly after her success and makes a film in 1961: Snow White and the Three Stooges . She marries Hayes Alan Jenkins (Olympic champion of ice-skating in 1956). After some official receptions of ice-skating, it is withdrawn completely in 1962 as practicing, indeed it decides to become entraîneuse at the beginning of the Années 1970 in the city where it saw: Akron. Among his pupils, one can quote Timothy Goebel, Tonia Kwiatkowski or Miki Ando.
