Carnival of Vienna

Faschingsschwank aus Wien (in French Carnival of Vienna ) COp 26, is a work for Piano of Robert Schumann

Inspired by its passage to Vienna in 1838, the Carnival of Vienna was composed in 1839.

Carnival COp 26 is distinguished from Carnival COp 9 by its less intimate character but also by its form. In the place of a series of small portions, we deal here with succession of five parts of relatively considerable size namely: Allegro - Lovesong - Scherzino - Intermezzo - Finale

Detail of the 5 movements:

The three parts Allegro Scherzino Finale stick to the principal tone of major B flat whereas the two others (Lovesong and Intermezzo) are in minor ground and minor E flat. The Finale is form of a traditional sonata leading to great conclusive agreements, whose sound power evokes the tutti of orchestra.
