Carnival of Chin

The carnival of Chin is a festival which is held each year in the town of Menton, in France. This particular Carnaval celebrates each year lemon of Chin to gustatory qualities declared incomparable from where its name: the festival of the Lemon-yellow. All the tanks and sculptures presented to the carnival are created starting from lemon and of orange. This carnival is recognized as being very spectacular.

A long story

a carnival to animate the city

In 1895, the hotel ones propose with the municipality to create a carnavalesque procession to animate the city in winter. As of 1896, the carnival of Chin allures the inhabitants like the wintering rich person. At the time, it is of good tone to come to spend the winter months under the lenient climate of the Riviera. Kings, princes and artists attend the de luxe hotels mentonnais or are made build splendid villas. The carnival of 1882 remains in the memory: the queen Victoria assists to with it, and it ends in an imposing fireworks on bay of Garavan.

The carnival of Chin is connected then with his/her cousin niçois: ravelled famous persons, jets of confettis, battles of flowers… fatty Tuesday during which King Carnaval is burned… It is located in the pure tradition of the Carnival, the popular jubilation, the feasts and the overflows in any kind preceding the Lent.
