Carlow

Carlow ( Ceatharlach in Irish) is a city of the Comté of Carlow in Ireland. It is located at 84 km in the south-west of Dublin, on the river Barrow. It counts approximately 20000 inhabitants.

History

The city was founded in 1180 by William Duc of Pembrocke and King of Leinster in order to strengthen a passage attended on the Barrows river. The monastery of St Mullins would have been located in the same area as of the VIIe century.

With the XIVe century, several castles were built in the city: Ballyloughan Castle, Ballymoon Castle, Leighlinbridge Castle and Tower House. The College St Patrick was created in 1793.
