Carlos Schwabe

Carlos Schwabe , born in Altona- Hamburg in 1866 and died in Avon in 1926 is a Artist-painter born in Germany, residing then naturalized in Suisse, which lived in France of 1884 until its death.

Gifted autodidact of a nevrotic sensitivity, it does not know any academic formation except for the school of the industrial srts of Geneva where it learns how to draw the plants and to sharpen its direction of the decoration. Visionary, mystic and eminently recluse, it is however quickly mixed with the Parisian circles most active and becomes one of more shining auxiliary of the Sar Péladan, it will carry out the first poster of the Living room of the Rosicrucian brotherhood. Its art of the drawing and its idealism are worth to him to become a famous illustrator: Stephan Mallarmé, Albert Samain, Baudelaire, Zola of which it decorates the Dream , Maurice Maeterlinck, Hérédia, Pierre Loüys, etc

The perfection of its graphics locates it like a precursor of the Art nouveau, and like one of the most personal Symbolists, having religious and social concerns but also a certain pantheism due to its Germanic origins which supplement the portrait of an artist had by his ideal.
