Juan Carlos Finlay is a cuban Médecin , born the December 3rd 1833 with Puerto Principe and dead the August 20th 1915 with Havana.
It is born under the name of Juan Carlos Finlay and it will change later the order of its first names. He is the son of Edward and Isabel born of Bars. He studies with the college of Rouen and obtains his title of doctor at the School Jefferson medicine of Philadelphia in 1855. He is in France, of 1860 with 1861, to supplement his formation.
After exerthaving briefly exerted with Lima, it is sent to Trinité for political reasons. It turns over to Cuba in 1870.
It makes party, in 1881 and 1903, with the delegation representing Cuba with the International Conference on the health which is held with Washington. It chairs the commission on the infectious illness of Havana of 1899 1902. In 1909, he becomes honorary president of Unta Nacional de Sanidad there Beneficencia. Gourvenement of the island created, in its honor, the Finlay Research institute of tropical medicine.
In 1865, Finlay forwards an article to the Academy of Science of Havana where it exposes a theory outlining a bond between the weather conditions and the Yellow fever. Carlos Finlay becomes famous for his work to identify the Moustique responsible for the transmission of the virus of the yellow fever. He supplements his theory by the recommendation of the control of the populations of mosquito like method of fight against the disease. If its work appears during the years 1870, he is only recognized only in 1900. He is the first to affirm, in 1881, that a mosquito is necessary for the transmission of the yellow fever. A mosquito pricking an infected person can then infect a healthy person. Its theory is shown, twenty years later, by the Walter Reed Commission in 1900.
The general Leonard Wood (1860-1927), doctor and military governor of Cuba in 1900 will say that the confirmation of the assumption of Doctor Finlay is the greatest stage of medicine since the discovery, by Jenner, of vaccination .
