Carlos Cruz-Díez

Carlos Cruz-Diez (August 17th 1923 with Caracas -) is a painter Venezuelan and artist Cinétique, credit mainly with Paris (after a stay in Spain) since 1960.

Being interested in the optical phenomena in the Years 1950, it notes during experiments with the primary colors in arrangements of thin bands of intersection which it could create the illusion of a third or fourth color however non-existent.

1940-1945 Make its studies at the school of Beautiful arts in Caracas. it receives the diploma for the occupation of Professor.

1944-1945 graphic Originator of the publications of the Creole Petroleum Corporation (Esso now Exxon). Caracas.

1946-1951 Creative Director of the agency McCann-Erickson Advertizing of Venezuela.

1953-1955 Illustrator of the newspaper “El Nacional”. /Professor d' Histoire of Applied art to the School of Beautiful arts of Caracas.

1955-1956 Reside at Barcelona in Spain and in 1956 travels several times to Paris.

1957 Go back to Venezuela. Found “Estudio de Artes Visuales” for Graphic art and Industrial Design. /Graphic Originator of the publications at the Minister of education. /Graphic Concepteur of the Review “Carries out”.

1958-1960 Assistant editor and professor of painting at the School of Beautiful arts of Caracas.

1959-1960 Professor de Typographie and Graphic Drawing at the School of Journalism of the Central University from Venezuela in Caracas. 1960 Live with Paris and voyage regularly to Venezuela.

1972-1973 Teach at the University of Beautiful arts the “Kinetic Techniques”. University of Teaching and Research. Paris 1.

As of 1959, it creates geometrical images in shift which emergent, intensify, change, and are dematerialized, following the example viewer moving on a side of work to the other. This effect is obtained by means of bands of Métal vertical narrow, of bands in plastic affixed on surface punt, with vertically painted lines of color. These works are exposed in the whole world: the international Aéroport of Caracas has for example large a mosaic of this artist in his hall.

In the recent years, Carlos Cruz-Diez used the computer to give a new dash to his plastic research.
