The concrete sculptor

In 1926, Carlo Sarrabezolles initiates a novel method, the direct size of the Béton fresh , which one also called sculpture with Fresque , being given equivalence that it fear of having with this pictorial technique. It was applied the first time for the Campanile of the church of Villemomble (Seine-Saint-Denis). From August 20th to November 3rd, 1926, Sarabezolles carves 20 statues of characters, 4 seraphes, the symbols of the evangelists and many inscriptions. Until there the Ciment allowed to carry out sculptures by moulding. Here, it is any more question neither of mould, nor of model: it is necessary to cut in the mass of the concrete in catch, therefore very quickly, and by successive bases, on the basis of bottom. It is a work of improvisation which concerns the performance, which explains why he did few followers in this speciality which satisfied the project superintendents, so much for his economic aspect than esthetic. The sculpture makes body, indissociablement, with architecture. It carries out this way the frontage and the bell-tower of the Sainte church - Therese d' Élisabethville with Aubergenville (Yvelines), both giant legendary , Lydéric and Phinaert, which constitute the base of new the Beffroi of Lille, and other achievements of this type in the following years: the sculpture-bell-tower of the Saint-Pierre church of Alfortville (1932, destroyed in 1980), the Church Our-Lady-of-Missions of Epinay-sur-Seine (1934, architect Paul Tournon), decoration external of the Saint-Louis church of Marseilles (1935, architect Jean Sourdeau).

He is the author of the " group; four éléments" Passy wing of the Palate of Chaillot in Paris. Its requirement for quality is such as, the group in place, it cuts out of it a part which does not satisfy it, remakes it and positions it back, the whole with its expenses. In 1935, his/her friend Expert the Roger architect, in charge of the installation of the steamer " Normandy " he order a bronze, " genius of the mer" , which remains one of its major works, although it was not finally installed on the steamer.

In 1967, it restores the figures carved by David of Angers to the pediment of the the Pantheon of Paris.

It did not cease working, both in France and abroad ( park of the property and busts of Dupont de Nemours, the USA; embassy from France in Belgrade, Serbia…), until death surprises it in its workshop of the street of the Volunteers (Paris 15th), in 1971.
