Carlo Emery
Carlo Emery is a Médecin and a Entomologiste Italy N, born the October 25th 1848 with Naples and dead the May 11th 1925 with Bologna.
His/her parents are of origin Suisse but naturalized Italian. It is devoted to the study of the Fourmi S. It studies medicine and decides, in 1872, to specialize in Ophtalmologie but, to attract by the Natural science, he becomes professor of Zoologie to the Université of Cagliari in Sardinia (1878-1881). After the death of his father, it settles in Bologna where it occupies the pulpit of zoology of the university of the city, function which it occupies until his retirement.
Polyglot (he usually speaks Italian, French, English, German and Spanish and binds several other languages including Russian), talented draftsman (he illustrates itself his work), he is the author of many publications of which a handbook of zoology (republished in 1904), monographs on of Poisson Fireasfer (1880), on the anatomy of the Vipère S (1873) and on the Bioluminescence of the Lampyridae (1884). Emery is the author of more than 300 publications in Entomologie which it devotes mainly to the Formicidae, especially on the taxinomic aspects , morphological and biogeographic. 130 S, 1.057 S, 265 subspecies and varieties of Formicidae (Hyménoptère). Among its major publications, it is necessary to quote Fauna Entomologica Italiana. Formicidae (1926) and Beiträge zur Monograph der Formiciden of the palaearktischen Faunengebietes (1908-1912). It signs the part devoted to these insects in Genera insectorum (1910-1925) of Philogène Auguste Galileo Wytsman (1866-1925). In 1906, whereas it remained in Suisse, it is victim of several attacks of Apoplexie which returns it paralyzed right-sided. He then learns how to write and draw his left hand and makes appear thus Compendio di Zoologia .
Its collection of Fourmi S is preserved at the Museo G. Doria, the Muséum of Natural history of Genoa and its collection of Coléoptère S with the Natural history museum of Rome. He is vice-president of the entomological Société of Italy of 1903 with 1917.
