Carlo Collodi

Carlo Collodi is the pseudonym of Carlo Lorenzini , Italian writer born the November 24th 1826 with Florence where he died the October 26th 1890.

It is especially known to be the author of the chief of work of the children's literature, universally known, Pinocchio .

Biography

Carlo Collodi begins in journalism, in humorous newspapers, then engages in the fight for the Italian independence in 1859. It becomes again journalist in May 1860. He wrote some novels and parts which did not have a great success.

It is only in 1875 that Carlo Collodi starts to write for the children by adapting the Contes Charles Perrault in Italian.

After, one says, of gambling debts, it starts to write Pinocchio in 1881, which will appear in serial in the Journal of the children until in 1883. This novel will bring success to him, but Collodi will never find the same inspiration for its later works.

One as of its nephews, writer also, will have a certain celebrity, in particular in the USA and thanks to the notoriety of his/her uncle under the pseudonym of Collodi Nipote of its true name Paolo Lorenzini.

It is buried with the cemetery of San Miniato Al Assembles of Florence.
