Carlo Azeglio Ciampi (born the December 9th 1920 with Leghorn, Tuscan -) is a banker and statesman Italy N.
Biography
Laid off in letters of the teacher training school of Pisa and in right, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi made all its career with the Banque of Italy (the Italian central bank) until in becoming managing director in 1978. In September 1979, it was appointed governor of Banca d' Italia, succeeding Paolo Baffi which while resigning had suggested its name with the president of the council Francesco Cossiga. Elected official on May 18th 1999 with a majority crushing by the Italian Parliament, it was the tenth President of the Italian Republic . The May 15th 2006, after one septennate, it yielded the place to the current president of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. Since he is senator with life as a former president of the Republic.
He also exerted, first political not-leader at this station, of April 28th 1993 at April 16th 1994, the functions of president of the Italian Council of Ministers, succeeding Giuliano Amato (1st government) and itself being replaced by Silvio Berlusconi (1st government) after the legislative elections of 1994.
He was Minister of Finances of the government Prodi of 1996 with 1999 until his election with the report heading.
He obtained the International prize Charlemagne with Aachen in May 2005 and received a doctorate Honoris Causa of the National university in June 2005.
