Carlo Alberto Castigliano

Carlo Alberto Castigliano (born with Silk on November 9th, 1847, † with Milan on October 25th, 1884) is an engineer and an Italian mathematician who illustrated themselves by his work in mathematical theory of elasticity and mechanics of the deformable structures.

Alberto Castigliano left its native Piedmont to follow the courses of the Technical Institute of Terni, in Ombrie (1866-1870), then those of the Polytechnic Institute of Turin (1871-1873). Its report of end of studies, Intorno have sistemi elastici acquired the celebrity to him. Once graduate engineer, it was recruited with the railroads of Italy of the North, where it directed the service of works of art, maintenance and the exploitation, and preserved this station until his untimely death.

The Theorem of Castigliano, tool fundamental for the resolution of the hyperstatic structures in elasticity, is stated in its report of end of study.
