Carl Ludwig Blume

Carl Ludwig Blume (or Karel Lodewijk Blume ), born the June 29th 1789 with Brunswick and dead the February 3rd 1862, is a Botaniste germano- Dutch.

Of German origin, Blume passed the essence of its life to the Netherlands. After having directed the Botanical garden of Buitenzorg of 1822 with 1826, it directs national Botanical garden of Leyde (the Rijksherbarium ).

He studies the Flore particularly Asian south-east and in particular of Java of which he receives many specimens of the Dutch colony which is installed there. In 1844, it makes appear the first catalog of the Botanical garden of Buitenzorg where it describes 914 S.

The review of botany Blumea was baptized thus to pay homage to him.
