Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen
Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen (* September 27th 1778 - † December 21st 1851 with Berlin) was a Compositeur and German Pédagogue .
Life
Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen gives up studies of painting because of not very considerable progress which it carries out on the matter and it takes again the trade of his father. He will work there until the death of this last, occurred in 1796, after which he devoted himself only to the Musique.
In 1801, it integrates the academy of song of Berlin ( Sing-Akademie zu Berlin ). In 1815, it is promoted at the post of vice-director and thus becomes an essential component of the Berliner musical life. It is at the same time that it receives courses of Carl Friedrich Zelter.
Zelter dies in May 1832 and it is necessary to succeed to him the head of the Academy. A competition then opposes Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen to the young person and not less talented Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. But even the legendary interpretation of Passion according to Holy Matthieu of Johann Sebastian Bach, the first since the death of the type-setter, who was a success fulgurating the March 11th 1829 with the Academy, as well as the fact that almost all the Mendelssohn family during years had taken part in the choral society of the Academy did not carry the young talent to the coveted station: it is Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen which succeeds Zelter as a director of the Academy, in 1833, even if this decision does not achieve the unanimity among the members of the establishment.
As a director of the Academy, Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen contributes to the rebirth of the music of Bach. It is also interested in the oratorios of Georg Friedrich Haendel. In same time, it joined the royal Académie of Berlin to exert there its talents of Pédagogue. He thus teaches the music with Albert Lortzing and August Conradi.
In 1843, Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen is honoured with the title of Professor . It returns the heart the December 21st 1851 to Berlin, 73 years old.
