Carl Christian Mez

Carl Christian Mez is a German Botaniste , born the March 26th 1866 with Freiburg-in-Brisgau and dead the January 8th 1944 in this same city.

Mez is resulting from a family of industrialists of Freiburg. He is the small son of the politician Carl Mez (1808-1877). Teenager, raises in a Gymnasium, it is interested in botany and makes appear an article on an hybrid of the Inula .

He initially studies in the university of his birthplace of 1883, with 1884 before leaving to Berlin. He returns to Freiburg in 1886. He supports a thesis on the Lauraceae in Berlin. After having received its enabling, Mez briefly works with the museum of botany of Berlin before becoming Privatdozent with Breslau starting from 1890. In 1900, Mez becomes full professor of systematic vegetable and Pharmacognosie to the Université Martin-Luther of Market-Wittenberg to Halle. In 1910, it is named professor of vegetable physiology and directs the Botanical garden close to Königsberg (Prussia). It east names professor emeritus in 1935.

Mez is the founder and the director of Botanischen Archivs until in 1938. It is devoted mainly to systematic and vegetable physiology, especially of the family of Lauraceae. Moreover, he worked on the Champignon S and in particular on the whining Mérule.
