Carl Barks
Carl Barks (March 27th 1901 - August 25th 2000) was a American Dessinateur . Employee by Western Publishing, an editor of " comics" American for Disney, it drew during many years of the cartoons putting in scene the character of Donald Duck and its close relations. He is the creator of other characters of the universe of Donaldville, of which Picsou, Rapetou, Gontran Bonheur or Géo Trouvetou.
Biography
Youth
Carl Barks was born on March 27th, 1901 with Merrill in the state from the Oregon to the the United States in a family from farmers. After a removal in 1908 to approach a city on the railway, there discovers the rural markets and remains impressed by the cow-boys and their revolvers. After a financial failure of the father in the exploitation of vegetables in California, the family turns over in 1913 to Merrill.From solitary and contained nature, several events in 1916 will consolidate these features: the death of his/her mother, the aggravation of problems of hearing and distance of the schools and colleges in this rural areas. It is constrained to give up its studies this year.
It is tested then with several employment: farmer, logger, guard of mules and cows, printer. What he will say to have retained of these years was the capacity to resist with his/her colleagues all the hard blows by humor. Carl Barks ensures that this part of its life influenced much its future characters of Donald and Picsou. Donald is indeed a character who passes from odd jobs in odd jobs without success, or with extremely temporary successes.
For Picsou, according to Barks, he lived in his youth the same problems that Donald, but succeeded in leaving himself there by the intelligence, the determination and work. Picsou is baited to regulate its problems even if the result can seem futile. Another similarity of Picsou with its creator: he appears often as melancholic person, introspective and secrecy as him.
A draftsman during the century
Barks then decides to make of a pastime its trade: to draw. He adores the comic strip S published in the newspapers, in particular those signed Winsor McCay (known for Little Nemo ) and Frederick Burr Opper ( Happy Hooligan ). Some lessons by correspondence stopped because of its precarious employment were useful for him to start to exceed the stage of amateur.
He marries in 1921 Pearle Turner of which he has two girls, Peggy and Dorothy, and which he divorces in 1930. He turns over in 1923 to Merril in the paternal farm and fails launching again a career of farmer. Between the odd jobs, it continues to try to sell its drawings with the newspapers, and ends up succeeding in the magazine Judge and the daily newspaper Calgary Eye Opener whose offices are with Mineapolis (Minnesota) where it moves in and meets his second wife, Clara Balken (married in 1938).
In 1935, it starts to sell its drawings with other newspapers that the Calgary Eye Opener . In November 1935, it learns that Walt Disney research from the draftsmen of animation. It enters the company more than one year after creation of Donald Duck in June 1934.
He moves with Los Angeles and starts as intervalist: he draws all the repetitive drawings necessary to create animation. In 1936, its qualities enable him to reach the department of the scenarios, where its imagination can overflow effectively.
In 1937, Donald Duck becomes the single hero of his cinematographic adventures. It is not used any more a development for Mickey Mouse. Barks is satisfied at the beginning to provide some tracks of stories, then obtains the right to write its own stories. It appears inter alia in the credits of the Nephews of Donald ( Donald' S Nephews , 1938), the cousin Gus ( Donald' S Cousin Gus , 1939), Timber in 1941 (Timber is the cry of the loggers when a trunk falls), The Vanishing Private , 1942 (one of the episodes of Propagande of Donald soldier, private in the army states-unienne) and The Plastics Inventor (1944).
Having a character as coleric as Donald when his work is criticized, Barks resigns of the Disney studios in 1942. Right front, it draws with Jack Hannah the first album of Donald ( comic book ) on a scenario of Bob Karp: the gold of the pirates ( Donald Duck Find Pirates Gold )
