Cariens

The Cariens are people of the South-west of the Anatolia, announced since seventh century BC.

Divided into cities subjected to dynaste S, they keep a common council. Sailors and soldiers mercenaries, they let the Greeks base, on their coast, of the cities, where they mingle with them.

Subjected to Crésus, then in the Persian , (- 546 -333), Cariens take part in the “Révolte of Ionie” (- 499 -493). A family of dynastes Cariens dominates Greek Halicarnasse until towards -454, then takes again importance with Hécatomnos, which obtains from the King the creation of a Satrapie de Carie (towards -390), which will pass to its descendants.

Mausole (- 377 -353) continues the policy of constraint of the close Greek cities. Re-entry in the right common to the extinction of the Dynasty (- 326), the Decay is cut up by kings Hellénistiques and the Rhodiens.
