History
The song was initially published like a solo of George Michael, whereas it still formed part of the group of pop Wham!. Contrary to all the other individual ones of the duet (except for Wham Rap! ), it was Co-writing by Andrew Ridgeley, the other member of the musical formation. In June 2006, in an interview on the Radio station of London Magic 105.4, Michael declared that he had written this song “in his head” during work and that he remembers to have found the front of Saxophone whereas he was on board a bus number 32 on the way of the return. In the beginning, the front was to comprise words, but Michael refused to include them in the song, saying that they were too poor.
The song knew at least two period of manufactures. The first proceeded when George Michael went at the time of a voyage to Muscle Shoals, in Alabama, where he worked with the legendary producer Jerry Wexler in famous Muscle Shoals Studio. However, Michael was dissatisfied with the version which was initially produced and decided to re-record the song and to produce it itself, coming this time with the version which was finally marketed. The version produced by Wexler has despite everything considering the day, but only later and as a face B (" Version spéciale" from one duration of 4:41) on 12 , realized in England. Semi-ballade, with a rate/rhythm of production drunk and a remarkable solo of Saxophone (played by Steve Gregory), the individual one was published in August 1984, and entered Charts individual of the the United Kingdom to 12 place. In two weeks, the title became number one, putting thus fine at nine weeks of pole position for Two Tribes , interpreted by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. There remained number one during three weeks. Thereafter, the title reached the top of the charts in 17 other countries, whose the United States and its Billboard Hot 100 in February 1985, even if in this country, it was credited with " Wham! Featuring George Michael ".
As that is mentioned on the back of the individual one, the song is dedicated to the parents of the singer.
George Michael, still very attached to Wham!, quickly becomes number one with the Duo with the song Liberté , before the end of the year within the framework of the collective Band Aid, which means that it had obtained three number one in 1984 within the framework of three different configurations: within the framework of a Duet, an artist solo and a member of a collective of charity.
Finally, Wham! was divided into 1986. Two months later, Michael published its second individual solo, entitled has Different Corner , which was also number one in the United Kingdom. Since, he was a growing success being several times preceded in his career solo.
