Cardassien

The Cardassiens form, in the fictional universe of Star Trek, a species humanoïde native of the planet Cardassia Prime and controlled by the Union Cardassienne .

Physiology

Descendants of a species of reptiles originating in Cardassia Precedes, Cardassiens tend to prefer hot and wet environments hard to bear for the Human ones. Modified genetically, like all the humanoïdes, by Humanoïdes original, they do not keep of it less one appearance still very reptilienne. This one is characterized by a skin blanchâtre, two osseous peaks on each side of the neck and an osseous outgrowth on the face vaguely affecting the shape of a spoon. This particularly visible characteristic their was worth, at the time of the wars of the Dominion, the nickname of " face of cuillère" ( Spoonheads ). This outgrowth is also found on the chest; it would be indeed about a protection against the hostile environment of the marshes of old Cardassia. At the females, this outgrowth, just like the two peaks of the neck, is slightly tinted of blue. The hair of the cardassiens in general varies the brown dark one with the major black.

Contrary to the majority of the other species humanoïdes, the cardassiens are extrêmements resistant to the effects of alcohol and drugs. Lastly, the cardassiens being disciplined as of childhood, the mental character trait apparent at the average subject cardassien is a photographic memory and a strong attention with the details.

History

The dictatorship of the Central Commandement on Cardassia goes up at forgotten ages of the cardassiens themselves, although it was not always thus. The origins of very Orwellien Commandement Central are obscure, but it seems that he was born by reaction with the decline from the old company cardassienne. Correcting the anarchy which followed the lack of resources caused by the fall of the old order, the Central Command installed an iron discipline and installed monitors at regular intervals in all the cardassiennes cities. The large walls screens observed on Cardassia Prime are also the work of the Central Command. To maintain the laws of the Central Command requiring a constant monitoring, the Ordre Obsidien was probably created at that time to this end (although, towards the end of the era of the Central Command, the Obsidien order seemed rather to give orders that to receive some).

This time was also that of the expansion of the Cardassienne Union in the Quadrant Alpha. The two most outstanding events of this time were the short one but forces war between the Plain Fédération of the Planets and the Cardassienne Union, resulting in a fragile peace agreement and creation from the Demilitarized zone (see the Maquis), and the invasion of Bajor, small neutral planet with the borders of the Demilitarized zone.

A third conflict, with the Empire Klingon this time, occurred little before the Wars of the Dominion. Under pretext that the new civil government cardassien had been infiltrated by a Fondateur, the Chancellor of the Empire Gowron coordinated an invasion of space cardassien. The invasion, and the war which followed, were condemned by the Federation and the other powers of the Quadrant Alpha, but did not cease therefore. Although still strong, the Union was destabilized by a succession of coups d'etat and lost much - in terms of planets, of resources, men and of prestige - with the hands of Klingons. This irrefutable fact precipitated the assimilation of the Cardassienne Union in the Dominion, which made advances with the Central Command since a long moment.

Following the events told in the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the Dominion signed an armistice with the Plain Federation of Planets, the Stellar Empire Romulien and the Klingon Empire, recognizing a total defeat and the abandonment of any possession in the Quadrant Alpha. The cardassiens, recently released after an insurrection generalized against the Dominion, were found without Central Commandement, with a devastated infrastructure, monumental losses of resources and territory and a demography changed by the loss of several hundreds of million men.

Culture

The culture cardassienne, although very varied, is primarily turned around the glory of the state and the Union. The ideal sought by all cardassien is that of a life devoted to the service of the Central Command, considered omniscient. One of the apparent examples of this frame of mind is the legal system cardassien, according to which in any lawsuit the verdict is known in advance. The principle of a " procès" according to the culture cardassienne is not, as according to the human habit, to disentangle the truth on a business, but to organize a work with the glory of the state in which l'" accusé" will have to recognize the power and the benevolence of the Central Command in front of Archonte. This complete devotion to the state often makes that few cardassiens worries about the other cultures as long as they do not interfere with the interest of the Union. Science, according to the company cardassienne, often does not have any interest in itself if it does not create a product quickly usable, with fine soldiers. Lastly, with the state, one of the most important things for a cardassien is the family, of which he thinks before itself most of the time. According to the dires of the Legate Pa' Dar ( Cardassians ), some hearths cardassiens are populated by more than 3 generations of the same family. One of the traditions related to this family direction is Shri-Tal, the transmission of all the secrecies of a cardassien to his/her child before his death, with an aim of being used to fight against the enemies of the family; this tradition comes from the proverb cardassien, according to which " nobody should die before his ennemis".

Although little is known at the culinary level, the sauce Yamok and alcohol kanar seem to hold a prevalent place in the kitchen cardassienne (Star Trek: DS9). In the same way, only one play cardassien is known to date, the Kotra , strategy game and of intrigues.
