In spite of their appearance with the lower Cretaceous, this family of Théropodes seems more to have lived with the higher Cretaceous, moreover, the last members of this family come from Argentine and are dated from Maastrichtien. According to the recent discovered ones ( Tyrannotitan and Mapusaurus ), one has creates a new subfamily: the Giganotosaurinae. Giganotosaurinae gathers approximately Carcharodontosauridae of South America (more precisely of Argentina).

Its fossils were found a little everywhere in the the Sahara, but the most beautiful skeleton was destroyed during the Second world war. Since, one found of him only one immense cranium, after deduction, the animal would have fact 14 meters length. ----
