Carburize
A carburizes is a chemical compound of the Carbone with a second chemical element other that the Oxygène. They thus present a general formulation of CxXy type.
One distingue :
- the Hydrocarbon S (CH), dont :
- the carbides Aliphatic s :
- saturated (Alkane S) : Methane, ethane, Propane, Butane. Formulas of the CH  type; ;
- insaturés : radical ethyl (CH) which gives the Ethanol (CHOH), the ethylene (CH), the Alcène S in general (CH) and the Alcyne S (CH) which give the Aspirine and of many other synthetic substances ;
- the aromatic carbides (near to benzoic CH), giving place to many Product of synthesis like the Benzodiazepine (CHN) and of the Polymeric S like the Polystyrene, for example ;
- the Tungsten carbides, where carbon is associated with the Calcium, with the Fer, the Tungstène, etc
- the Carbide silicon, composed of great hardness, and marketed under the names of carborundum (Abrasif) and of Moissanite (" imitation" Diamond).
The carburizes generally indicates the carburizes calcium , being in particular used to produce fuel of the lamps with Acétylène, which were used a long time in the mines and undergrounds.
One of the most known carbides is the carbide of Tungstène being used in particular with manufacture as cutting tools. The composition is variable according to the characteristics of this material. It includes/understands from 80% to tungsten 95% for the complement of Cobalt, like various elements of addition like the Niobium. Cobalt being used as binder in the composition of this carbide is carried out thanks to the Métallurgie of the powders by a process of frittage.
Tungsten the carbide, very hard, makes it possible to obtain a part with excellent mechanical characteristics (see Modulus Young, Poisson's ratio, Dureté), allowing amongst other things a great resistance to the wear. The cobalt addition makes it possible to limit the brittleness of tungsten carbide by increasing the ductility of the unit.
