Carbonari

Carbonaro , i.e. Coal S, political and secret company which appears to be formed in Italy at the beginning of the 19th century, after the fall of the new Italian republics.

The purpose of it was the establishment of a democratic government (it is a secret society having for objective the realization of the Italian unit and the introduction of freedoms guaranteed by a constitution); it caused in the kingdom of Naples, in 1820, an insurrection which was repressed soon. It spread in France towards 1818, Y counted soon a great number of affiliated and became frightening with the government of the Restauration, of which it prepared the fall; one allots the insurrectionary movements to him which took place of 1819 with 1822.

Carbonari were divided into small companies of 20 members, named sales , who sent deputies at a central assembly, named supreme sale or great sale .

The name of Carbonaro appears to be applied originally in Italy with conspirators Guelfe S, who, to mislead the monitoring of the Gibelins, Masters of the country, met in the bottom of wood in huts of coalmen.
