Caranx hippos

Caranx hippos (Linnaeus, 1776) whose French name is Carangue crevalle is a marine fish of rather big size about the Perciformes and of the family of the carangidés , alive in the Atlantic Ocean on the level of the moderate and tropical latitudes. It is for example most frequent Carangidé in water of French Guiana.

Description

The body is lengthened and enough compressed and, like all carangidés, the pectoral fins have the shape of a sickle. Two spines exist in front of the anal fins. The small scales are silver plated laterally, but the dorsal part is green-blue mixed of reflections gilded. The anal fin is yellow sharp. It presents a quite specific black spot at the edge of the cover. The maximum size would be approximately 115 cm length for a weight of 25 kg, but the majority of the adult individuals measure around 70 cm length for a weight of approximately 6 kg.

Behavior

Caranx hippos lives in group of some individuals and behaves in carnivore for its food, made up of Poisson S, Céphalopodes and Crustacé S Benthiques like the Crevette S.
