Carabao

Carabao (คาราบาว) is a group of Rock inhabitant of Thailand which is extremely popular in Thailand and in the other countries of Southeast Asia.

They are known for their " plaeng peua chiwit" (เพลงชีวิต), which one could translate by " songs of the vie" ; moreover MTV Asia names them the " vétérans". This style of music protestor appeared in the Années 1970 at the time of the political and social protest movements, especially thanks to Caravan Band. Carabao succeeded in mixing the acoustic style folk/songs " peua chiwit" with other styles of music inhabitant of Thailand and also with the Western Rock, which allotted the nickname of " to them; rockers ethniques" or of " Rolling Stones of Asie".

The songs of Carabao often attack the problems social and political, claiming social justice and defending the ordinary citizens towards the minoritée leading one, but they are also authors of the more romantic and philosophical pieces which carry universal messages.

Recently, and because of the incredible number of pirate discs in Thailand which reduced their record sales in an alarming way, Carabao composed of the qualifiable songs the food ones: Carabao Deng song advertizing for an energy drink mark, Bia Khon Thai song praising the merits of a beer mark.

In spite of that, Carabao will have marked the year 2005 thanks to its song Tsunami in homage to the victims of this catastrophe.
