CarGoTram

The CarGoTram be a Tramway of transport of Fret to Dresden. It supplies a factory Volkswagen with parts for the construction of cars.

History

The first ideas to build a factory of glass for Volkswagen (to produce the Volkswagen Phaeton and Bentley) in Dresden emerged in 1997. The March 3rd 2000, the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB AG, Company of public transport of Dresden ) and Volkswagen signed a contract for CarGoTram.

Two CarGoTrams were built by Schalker Eisenhütte Maschinenfabrik GMBH (Gelsenkirchen), at a cost of 6,5 million Deutsche Mark S each one. The DVB AG are responsible for the transport and the safety of freight.

CarGoTram was officially presented to Dresden the November 16th 2000 and made its first course of test the January 3rd 2001.

Intinéraires and frequency

Since 2001 CarGoTram circulates once per hour. In the event of workload raised with the factory, it can circulate every 40 minutes. It can borrow several routes. The principal route connects the GVZ (Güterverkehrszentrum, logistic center ) in Friedrichstadt via Postplatz and Grunaer Straße to Straßburger Platz ( Place of Strasbourg ) and to the private junction of the factory. In the event of obstruction on the network, CarGoTram can reach the Factory of glass by the central station or other routes.

Technology

CarGoTram is a bidirectional oar, usually made up of five cars, including two pilot cars. A complete train can transport the equivalent of the loading of three trucks (214 m ³).

The pilot cars, siutées at the ends of the oar, have a capacity of 7,5 T, lower than that of the intermediate cars (2 X 7,5 T), because they comprise a driving cabin. All the axles of all the cars are driving axles.
