Captive Cléopâtre
Cléopâtre captivates is a Tragédie in five acts of Etienne Jodelle, represented the February 9th 1553, initially in front of the king Henri II (Hotel of Rheims), then with the Collège of Boncourt. The part belongs to the posthumous collection poetic Works and meslanges of Estienne Jodelle Sieur of Lymodin (1574). Remy Belleau held to with it the role of Cléopâtre, Jean Bastier says Péruse, that of Octavien. It is the first humanistic tragedy .
Summary

Study
The first, Jodelle uses the Alexandrin in the tragedy (acts I and IV), but it uses also the Décasyllabe (acts II, III, V). In the choruses, he resorts to varied meters: some towards have only three syllables.The subject is taken in Plutarque ( Vie of Antoine ). The action is reduced: the part tells the decision to die of Cléopâtre and its realization.
