Dick Fosbury , born the March 6th 1947 with Portland cement, is a high jumper American, famous to have invented the dorsal western roll (also called the “  fosbury-flop  ”).

At 16 years, finding the techniques of the time, the ventral one or the chisel, too complicated, it tests a new method. Crossing 1,91 m then, that is to say 14 cm of better than its preceding personal record, it proceeds in this way, becoming university champion of the United States.

Dick Fosbury was then gold medal with the Olympic Games of Mexico City in 1968 thanks to this technique.

Thereafter, it was discovered that the first nobody to be itself served as this technique, was the athlete Bruce Quande.
