Cape de Couedic
The Cape de Couedic is located at the western southern point of Kangaroo Island, with 36°03.5 ′ S 136°41.9 ′ E off the Australian coasts . It was called thus in 1803 by the French explorer Nicolas Baudin in the honor of his friend, the captain Charles Louis of Couedic of Kergoualer (1740-1780).
The headlight of the course of Couedic is an important benchmark. Built between 1906 and 1909, it is made of a stone tower of the place and 3 houses of 4 parts for the guard, his assistants and their families.
As much of similar places, the site was at the time inaccessible by the ground. All the materials have being conveyed by boat and hoisted by a system of cables driven by a pair of horses.
At present, the headlight is automated and the tourists can place in the old houses of the guards.
