Canvassing

The canvassing consists of the request of a person “in order to propose to him the Achat, the Vente, the Location, the Location-vente or the Leasing of goods or the supply of service S”

A general regulation of canvassing in the first time had been operated by the law of December 22nd, 1972. According to this law canvassing always corresponded to a visit of the canvasser who directly carried the offer in the residence of the consumer or on his work place.

However, this law of December 22nd, 1972 was amended by the law of June 22nd, 1989 which considered the assumption of a canvassing “per telephone or all average assimilable technique”, i.e. canvassing can thus be carried out without the displacement of the canvasser.

France

Canvassing is defined according to the L-121-21 articles in L-121-33 of the Code of consumption.
