The team had only one season gaining (1975) during the first 22 seasons of her history. Even their qualification with the championship of the Coupe Stanley in 1982 against the Islanders of New York occurred in spite of one losing season.

Following the arrival of Stalemate Quinn as director-general at the end of the Years 1980, the team was much more success. In 1991-92 and 1992-93, Vancouver gained the championship of Smythe Division for the first and second time since 1975, and the team went until the second round of the eliminatory series for the first time since 1982. The following season, in 1993-94, although Canucks finished the season only with only one victory moreover than of defeats, the team beat the Flames of Calgary, the Stars of Dallas and the Maple Leafs of Toronto on the way towards her second participation in the finales of the Cut Stanley, this time against the Rangers of New York. The final mark was of 3-2 in favor of Rangers at the time of the seventh match.

During the years which followed, the team crossed one period of lethargy, especially during the three years when Mark Messier was the captain. After having missed the eliminatory series during four consecutive seasons, the team succeeded in being located above the threshold of respectability since the season 2000-01, Vancouver not having never been excluded from the eliminating heats since this date until the season 2005-06. Moreover, their first trio, formed of Markus Näslund, Todd Bertuzzi and Brendan Morrison, constituted during a few seasons one of the most powerful combinations of the league.
