Cantos d' Hypérion (original title: The Hyperion Cantos ) is a cycle of Science-fiction, written by daN Simmons, which falls under the category of the Space operated. This cycle gathers four novels: Hypérion ( Hyperion , 1989), the Fall of Hypérion ( The Fall off Hyperion , 1990), Endymion ( Endymion , 1995) and Awakening of Endymion ( The Small channel off Endymion , 1997), supplemented by two news: orphans of the propeller and the death of the centaur .
The Cantos d' Hypérion (or Songs of Hypérion ) of daN Simmons tell in four shutters the history of a humanity in danger whose fate is played on the Hypérion planet. The first two parts, Hypérion and the Fall of Hypérion describe the slow preparation of the cataclysm which must open the way at a new era of humanity, while the last two volumes, Endymion and the Awakening of Endymion, consider the revival of a civilization impressed of religiosity.
Hypérion is the first novel of the cycle. It has a narrative structure similar to the Contes of Canterbury of Geoffrey Chaucer. The history recalls the epopee of a group of travellers sent in pilgrimage towards the tombs of time on the Hypérion planet. These travellers were sent by the gritchtèque Church and Hegemony (the interplanetary government of human) in order to meet the Gritche. Progressively of their tour, each pilgrim delivers his history.

This book concludes the history started at the beginning from Hypérion. The narrative structure of the first shutter is abandoned with the profit of a chronological narrative structure more conventional.

The history begins 272 years after the events reported in the first two novels. Some characters remain present (inter alia Martin Silenus, the Hoyt father, and A. Bettik), while new protagonists appear. The novel Endymion introduces the character of Raul Endymion, a former shepherd then soldier reconverted like guides for hunters. Its main mission is to save and protect Aenea (Enée), girl of Brawne Lamia, a Messiah come from last times.

The last novel of the Cantos finishes the history started in Endymion. Raul, while approaching Aenea, discovers her secrecy, her destiny and the implication of her existence for the religious organizations.

The literary production of daN Simmons approaches kinds as varied as the Fantastique, the horror or the whodunnit, and the American author regards itself as a “occasional author of Science-fiction”. However, the science fiction occupies a special place in its bibliography: initially because its first accounts - published in 1982 - is news of SF which appear in specialized magazines, then because it is with the Cantos d' Hypérion - started seven years later - that it obtains the most literary prizes of its career: 6 nominations and 3 prices for Hypérion, 6 nominations and 4 prices for the Fall of Hypérion, finally 2 nominations and 1 price for Awakening of Endymion.
Hypérion and the Fall of Hypérion describe the installation of a complex four-dimensional machination which aims at exterminating Humanity.
