Cantonese

The Cantonese (), is a Chinese Langue spoken particularly in the south about the China, in the provinces of the Guangdong and the Guangxi, with Hong-Kong and Macao. It is named, in Cantonese 粵 jyut6 , 粵/粤 yuè in Mandarin.

For the Chinese, Cantonese is a dialect. Actually, from a Linguistic point of view, there are more differences between Cantonese and Mandarin which enters Spanish and French.

With the difference in Mandarin which uses 4 tons, the pronunciation of Cantonese can use up to 9 tons, i.e. certain phonemes can decide in nine different ways, with nine different directions according to the intonation and inflection given to the voice. Moreover, the Cantonese syllables often finish with a consonant (p/b, m, N, ng, g/k, d/t), whereas in Mandarin one finds only the nasal vowels and two consonants (N, ng) at the end of a syllable.

He is written by means of the Sinogramme S, including one certain number are clean for him and do not find themselves in Mandarin (which can however pronounce them or use them in a way much less frequent and in very limited employment). For example (transcriptions Jyutping ):

  • keoi5 , “it, him” (decides in Mandarin but does not have a direction; one will use 他 );
  • mou5 , “not to have” (Mandarin mǎo , not of direction, is equivalent of 沒有 méiyǒu );
  • m4 , (Mandarin , where it is used as rare onomatopoeia; equivalent of 不 );
  • hai6 , “being” (Mandarin , where it means “to bind”; equivalent of 是 shì );
  • mat1 , “what” (Mandarin crumb , not of direction, is equivalent of 甚麼/什么 shénme ).

Cantonese in the world

The communities of the South of China are by far those which essaimé to most frequently abroad form communities resulting from the Chinese Diaspora. Cantonese thus asserted itself there like common language, in particular in the Anglo-Saxon countries, with the detriment of Mandarin.
