Cantonal library thurgovienne

The cantonal Bibliothèque thurgovienne (BCT) places at the disposal of many people information and media of any kind. Its mission is the development of the regional literature thurgovienne. The use of the cantonal Library is opened with all the population.

The library is an important component of the cultural life of the Canton of Thurgovie and contributes at the same time to the encouragement of the scientific work, general training, teaching and the studies like with the leisures of the adults and young people.

History

As a pure administrative library of the new canton of Thurgovie, the cantonal Bibliothèque was founded in 1805. During the 19th century, it became gradually an public institution and finally passed for a public library and cantonal .

The BCT was divided into 1983 in two parts: the section in free access, with its: 16000 documents, also took up the duty of public library of Frauenfeld. The other section became a scientific library of studies. With the restoration in 2004, the section in free access and the library of studies were gathered again; since 2005, it is a library of formation and studies modern.

Funds

The funds of the BCT consist of: 250000 literary works, 500 alive periodicals (newspapers and magazines) like in approximately: 2000 Handwritten S and Incunable S. It also places at the disposal a broad offer of CD, video and cassettes audio. The literature covers all the fields, but the central collection of the library is the regional literature thurgovienne, named the Thurgoviana . As a cantonal library, it has the role of preserving the literature concerning the canton or written by thurgoviens authors.

Catalog

The electronic catalog of the cantonal Library of Frauenfeld indexes in addition to its own funds also the collections of the cantonal offices of the administration; it contains approximately: 100000 titles.
