Cantonal library of Glaris

The cantonal Bibliothèque of Glaris is at the same time the cantonal Bibliothèque (thus a library of study) and a library of public reading in free access. The accent of the collection rests on the writing glaronais.

History

In 1761, the first library was founded with Glaris for the inhabitants evangelic of the canton. A library open to all the population was created in 1858. After the fire devastator of 1861 which reduced two thirds of the city in ashes, the Bibliothèque was rebuilt with the law courts. During its restoration in 1969, the closed store was widened and a new room of inaugurated reading. In 1993, the cantonal library moved with these current buildings.

Funds

The part in free access of the BCG includes/understands 7 ' 500 children's books, 17 ' 000 works for adult, 6 ' 500 other media like video cassettes, of DVDs, CDs and Cd-ROMs, 20 newspapers and 110 periodicals. With the closed store some 100 ' 000 other volumes are.

Specialized Funds

The all plans of Walter Blumer, the library of Arthur Dürst concerning before all the geography and the history of plan, as well as the library of Fritz Zwicky concerning astrophysics and morphology, belong to the particular funds of the BCG. Moreover, it has the funds of exchange of the historical Association as well as Société of research naturalists of the canton of Glaris.

Glaronensia

The cantonal Bibliothèque of Glaris received on behalf of the canton the mission of collecting the writing glaronais. These Glaronensia comprises all the publications concerning the Canton of Glaris and its close neighborhoods, all the documents compiled by of Glaronais or published in the canton.

Use

The library is opened with everyone. The users can use all the documents and the infrastructure in free access and of the room of reading. All the works can be borrowed, except those being in room of reading, room of bibliography and the old funds of the closed store.

The BCG offers the loan inter librarian: The books in scientific, school matter or professional which are not available to the library, are ordered other libraries.

All the media acquired after 1991 are consultable via the catalog in line OPAC. The older funds must be required in the catalogs on cards which contain:
