One can distinguish several areas. The area of the
Lake Zurich is primarily used like zone of residence and leisures, enjoying moreover a tourist strong potential. In the east, Oberland is specialized in sylviculture and the textile. In the west and north, Unterland prolongs the great industrial park of Zurich and its agglomeration. The canton is thus mainly dedicated to industry, thus concentrating about half of the head offices of the first hundred Swiss companies. The agricultural activities nevertheless are preserved in the north of the canton (vines) and in the
Préalpes (fruits, cereals, vines, breeding).
Languages
German is the official language of the canton. One counts however 4% of italophones and a few thousands of speakers of the romanche. To note that it is not German of Germany (Hochdeutsch) which is spoken but the Germanic inhabitant of Zurich, which differs somewhat from the other Swiss Germanic speeches.
