Demography

Between 1975 and 1999, its population passed from 1.913 inhabitants to 4.229 inhabitants because of the Périurbanisation caused by the proximity of Montpellier.

Nevertheless, it is necessary to differentiate the communes of which the urban units are in the plain and close to the D986 road (of Montpellier with Ganges) of the communes isolated in the mountainous reliefs from the west from the canton or the scrubland in the east (Rouet). Certain communes count very few inhabitants thus: Wheel less than 100 inhabitants and no real agglomeration.

Canton renewed in 2001, renewable in 2008.
