History

Until a nonknown date, after 1882, the canton of Saint-Galmier grouped 21 communes. It was divided into two cantons: the current canton of Saint-Galmier, and the Canton of Chazelles-on-Lyon, which groups 10 communes ( Châtelus , Chazelles-on-Lyon , Chevrières , Gimond , Grammond , Maringes , Saint-Denis-on-Coise , Saint-Medard-in-Drill , Viricelles and Virigneux ).
