Canton of Obwald

Obwald (in German ) is a canton Suisse. Its official name translated into French is Unterwald-le-Haut.

History

The demicanton of Obwald forms with the demicanton of Nidwald, the historical canton of Unterwald and is for this reason, one of the cantons founders of the Confederation in 1291 with the cantons of Schwytz and Uri.

Geography

The canton of Obwald is divided into two parts, with the Is principal part is the Enclave Engelberg.
At the borders of the canton are the cantons Lucerne, Nidwald, Bern and Uri.

The canton is composed of seven common and is not divided into districts.
