Canton of Nidwald

Nidwald (in German ) is a canton Suisse. Its official name translated into French is Unterwald-le-Bas.

History

The demicanton of Nidwald forms with the demicanton of Obwald, the historical canton of Unterwald and is for this reason, one of the cantons founders of the Confederation in 1291 with the cantons of Schwytz and Uri.

Geography

Nidwald is in the center of the Suisse. With the Northern of the canton is the Lac of the Four-Cantons.
The canton is composed of eleven common and is not divided into districts.
