History of the Freibourgese flag

The Duke Berthold IV of Zaehringen founded the Ville of Freiburg in 1157. The history tells that it was then with hunting and that, surprised by the night and by the storm, it was lost and was accommodated for the night by a logger. This last being extremely poor, it made it sleep under two bags, one of flour and the other of coal. The Duke sees, while waking up the next morning, his white clothing with half and half blacks. Thus it decided that the city that it was going to found would have like colors the white and the black. With the wire of time, this emblem became that, no longer of the city, but of the canton of Freiburg.
