The canton of Aubergenville is a French administrative division , located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Composition

The canton of Aubergenville includes/understands 11 common :

Five of these communes, Aubergenville, Aulnay-on-Mauldre, Bouafle, the Flins-on-Seine and Nézel, constitute the Communauté of communes the Seine Mauldre since January 1st 2005.

Geography

The canton of Aubergenville, of a surface of 79 km ² approximately, includes/understands two appreciably equal parts, one in the alluvial of the valley of the the Seine, relatively industrialized plain and the other, which remained very rural, in the low valley of the Mauldre and the surrounding slopes.

It is crossed by important axes of communications: The channeled Seine, Highway of Normandy (exchanging of Flins), MINOR ROAD 113 (ex-main road 13), MINOR ROAD 191 (junction A13-N12), railway Paris-Montparnasse-Mantes and Paris-Saint-Lazare - Rouen. Four stations serve the canton: Aubergenville-Élisabethville, Maule, Nézel-Aulnay and Mareil-on-Mauldre (these two last being simple halts without sedentary personnel).

Economy

The industrial activity dominates in the valley of the Seine (Aubergenville, Flins), the principal employer being by far the governed Renault, a diversified industrial park (SME, warehouses) developed in Aubergenville along the highway. The small and medium-size companies (small shops, joinery and craft industry) are dominant downtown. Important a retail park settled in extreme cases of Flins and Aubergenville near a highway exchanger, centered around a hypermarket Carrefour. A project of “Family-Village”, new Shopping mall in the course of construction with Aubergenville, will supplement it soon, in spite of the marked opposition of the traditional tradesmen of the villages of the south of the canton.

Agriculture, if it occupies a very significant part of the territory, does not occupy more, as in the remainder of Yvelines, than a marginal share of the active population. The Truck farming formerly very developed in the valley of the Seine where it had replaced the culture of the vine, moves back in front of the development of the urbanization and the evolution towards the mechanized field crop.

In the south, the Chocolat ery Colas of Maule is locally famous, certain American tourists and Japanese move of Versailles to taste and carry the delicacies.

The communes of the canton have also a marked residential function, many inhabitants going each day to work in the east of the department, the Hauts-de-Seine (Defense) and with Paris, in particular borrowing the railway shuttles towards Saint-Lazare (the Saint-Lazare station is at 42 minutes of the station of Aubergenville-Élisabethville).

Tourism and culture

Tourism in the canton, although it is supported by the proximity of sites of Versailles, Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer, of the zoo of Thoiry and the the Seine not far, is a marginal activity. The religious buildings like the church Saint Nicolas's Day de Maule, the church out of concrete of Élisabethville, the castles of Agnou in Maule, Bazemont and Flins as well as the museum Aubert de Maule are the most notable places.

Aubergenville has had for a few years of a theater and cinema, “the Nacelle” where various cultural events are organized.
