The canton of Acute-Dead is located in the Gard, in the Arrondissement of Nimes.

During the creation of the departments, for the revolutionary period, the canton of Acute-Dead was initially located in the Herault. Then, it was exchanged with that of Ganges which was in Gard, so that the department of the Gard, which was in addition very culturally and commercially dependant with this canton, can have a maritime outlet.
Canton renewed in 2004, renewable in 2010.
