Cantagalo is a city of the State of Rio de Janeiro with the Brésil. The city counted 20.876 inhabitants in 2006 and its surface is of 748,77 km ². The colonization of its territory goes back to 1755.

The city owes its development with gold. The agriculture and the industry of cement are the economic main activities today.

The writer Euclides da Cunha was born in Cantagalo on January 15th, 1886.
