Verrières is a common French, located in the department of the Aube and the area Champagne-Ardenne.
Geography
GLASS is a village located at approximately 10km in the south-east of Troyes.
History
GLASS is village stretched, church draws up itself at the edge of the country road which seeks of which lélégante, without reaching always that point, to marry the lazy meanders of the Seine. This commune is made up of Three hamlets which met in time to form the current village:-
SAINT-MARTIN now missing, whose name evokes celebrates it owner of ancient Gaulle, existed since 1145. It counted 40 fires about 1290 and was attached to Verrières in 1795. It counted 63 inhabitants then and its church was sold like national good and was demolished in the same year.

SAINT-AVENTIN whose name points out the memory of the piles hermit which lived these places at the 6th century and would have died there into 537, was attached to Verrières also in February 1795.

GLASS which existed already in year 500, depended on the Intendance and the General information of Châlons until the revolution, then became common canton of Aumont as from this time and until IX of the Republic.
The most former known lord was the count of Champagne, Seigneur of Isle, then followed one another the King of France, the Duke of Burgundy, the Dukes of Nevers, Honore de Mauroy secretary of Henri III then Henry IV.
The population was of 100 fires at the 13th century, then 65 fires and 246 inhabitants in 1710. The official census of 1831 mentions 574 inhabitants and the population hardly evolves/moves until 1975. Then the attraction of the countryside attracts the townsmen and with the last census of 1990, one counts 1734 inhabitants.

During the Wars of religion (1562-1598), the church of Canopies was ransacked, then repaired in 1677 by the monks of the Monastery of Montier-the-That.

In 1714, during 6 weeks, a Swiss battalion of the royal armies of Its Majesty Louis XIV confined at the village.

Under Napoleon 1st, during the " Countryside of France" , the Austrian dragons fought battle in the sector in February 1814, then in July 1815.

more recently, during the second world war, in the night of July 26th, 1944 at 3 o'clock in the morning, a bomber of Royal the Air Force, touched by a German fighter, was crushed in flame in the North-West of the village. Witnesses one clearly considering the apparatus and its tragedy trailed fire to prick right on the dwellings and they keep the conviction that the pilot carried out a last operation to save the village.
Today, at 10 minutes of the city, GLASS remains a village of leisures clean and vain, place of escape and relaxation for much of Troyens. One finds there calm nature, fishing, swimming, the canoeing and many other approvals.
